The different classifications of modelling are given below.

Television Modelling: this involves modelling before the movie camera, to be used for TV commercials, cinema, video, Internet, etc. Modelling for video or films often includes some acting or dance and is mostly conducted at various locations. To be a successful TV model you need to have a good flair for acting.

Print modelling: Models generally pose for still photographs which are used in print media, brochures, magazines, catalogues and calendars etc. Models in print media have to work along with ad agencies and photographers.

Show Room modelling: as the name indicates it takes place in the show rooms. Models are generally engaged by exporters, garment manufacturers and big garment retailers to display the latest trends of fashion to the customers.

Live modelling: This is usually called ramp or catwalk modelling. These events are organised to display the garments and accessories in front of a live audience. These shows can be at an exhibition or a fashion show or at a show room. Ramp modelling requires long hours of practice as performing in a live show before an audience can be very stressful; hence it entails tremendous confidence and poise. Ramp models should have a good posture, walking style and body language.

Advertising modelling: This is the area where both the print and electronic media have equal importance. The main purpose is to either promote or popularize a product. Advertising models appear in press ads, on posters, in TV commercials and advertising films. It is open to models of all age groups. Basic acting skills and a photogenic face are very essential.

Educational Qualification

Strictly speaking there is no need of any formal education or training to get into this field; so is it with age also. Depending upon the right opportunity, a career in modelling can take off even at any age.

Study and Training  There are no set standards of training and models are usually expected to learn on the job. A beginning for training in this field has been made by ex-models but the training centres are mainly in Mumbai and Delhi only.

Training programmes include instructions on beauty care, make-up, hair styling, diet and exercise, how to walk and carry yourself elegantly and so on. These training programms also include guidelines on how to make a contract and other technical aspects. Guidandce on making a profolio is also another part of the training.

By joining such programmes an aspiring model would not only learn the finer points of the profession but also get an exposure that may in the long run provide immense help in getting assignments.
